How the LKL season works
The LKL is Lithuania's top league and one of the strongest national leagues in Europe for its size. The clubs play a regular season from autumn to spring, then the best teams play the playoffs for the title in May and June. Žalgiris Kaunas has won the large majority of titles, with Rytas Vilnius the most frequent challenger.
What decides LKL games
The gap between the top clubs and the rest is wide, so many games have a clear favourite, and handicaps can be large. Žalgiris and Rytas also play in Europe, so their league games around European weeks can see rotation. Basketball is the national sport, arenas are full and home court matters. Games are 40 minutes under FIBA rules.
Reading our LKL predictions
Because favourites win most LKL games, the more useful numbers are often the projected margin and the total rather than the winner. Before taking a big favourite on the handicap, check whether it played a European game two days earlier. Each prediction shows the win probability, projected score, handicap and total.
LKL predictions: questions
- Who usually wins the LKL?
- Žalgiris Kaunas has won most LKL titles since the league began in 1993, and Rytas Vilnius is the club that most often breaks that run or reaches the final.
- Why are LKL handicaps so big?
- Budgets in the league differ a lot, so the strongest clubs often beat the weakest by twenty points or more. The projected margin on each game page shows how far the model expects it to go.
- Do European games affect LKL predictions?
- They can. Clubs that play in the EuroLeague or EuroCup rest players in league games around those weeks; the betting market reacts to team news and our predictions follow it.
- How accurate are the LKL predictions?
- Every pick is settled in public on the accuracy page, by competition and by confidence, so the record can be checked game by game.
- How many points are scored in LKL games?
- Finished LKL games this season have averaged 167 points in total, and the home team has won 61% of them. Each game's own projected total is on its prediction page.
- When are LKL predictions published?
- Up to 3 days before tip-off. Each prediction is updated as the betting market and the line-ups move, until the game starts.
- What do the spread and the total mean?
- The spread is the projected winning margin: −5.5 means the favourite is expected to win by 6 points or more. The total is the projected number of points both teams score together; the over/under pick says whether the game should finish above or below the bookmakers' line.
- Are the LKL predictions free?
- The winner, the win probability and the projected score of every LKL game are free to read, with no sign-up. The spread and total picks, the market prices and the full analysis are part of the Starter and Pro plans, and three games a day are fully unlocked for everyone.
- How are the predictions made?
- Each team gets attack and defence ratings from this season's games, weighted toward recent form and adjusted for the opponents faced, plus a home-court edge measured for each competition. Where bookmakers price a game, the model is blended with their consensus.
